It was a lot of fun! I have been to these countries before but never during the Christmas Markets. I would definitely go again.

From our perspective the market experience was enjoyable and memorable and I would recommend. The optional activities were costly for a family and we had to carefully consider those we wanted to take part in. Bavarian Evening and Traditional Tyrolean Evening left us feeling below expectation. Tyrolean evening needs to be looked at as an appropriate experience from and OHS perspective. We saw 4 adults trip and fall, in the same area of the venue, one quite seriously. It took our took director and ourselves closest to stop and warn every person from there on in about watching their step. Guests in the front rows were showered with wood chips from one of the dances- an eye injury and law suit just waiting to happen, and watered down drinks were included. The meals at some of the group dinners and optionals were very small servings, it felt the restaurants were spreading prepaid dinners very thinly. Where there was buffet selection for starter was a time to bulk up meal.

Concerned about a couple of the hotels, all were smoking rooms on smoking floors-all guests on this tour were non smokers. Vienna hotel and Munich hotel too far from city centre, public transport or taxi required to get to local restaurants etc. Hotels Grauer Baer, Innsbruck and Astoria, Luzern excellent locations. Would have liked more time in Salzburg, a gem that we had too little time in. Did not enjoy the large nos of tour groups in hotels where breakfasts were shared-very chaotic, noisy and clearly hotel staff did not enjoy that part of their day either. Breakfasts selections and group dinners were repetitive, fresh fruit produce in all hotels was of poor quality and limited. Would be great if Trafalgar management staff were to stay unannounced with some tour groups and assess for themselves.

Highly recommend flying into Vienna 2 days early if you can. We did and it made all the difference in terms of washing off the time difference and our ability to see much much more in an incredibly beautiful city. The time with the official tour felt perfect in every city except Vienna. So if you look to see what Trafalgar takes you to (and it's scheduled highlights /optional choices are perfect and spectacular) and make an effort to do the other things you will feel full. You def want at least one day if not 2 prior to meeting with the group.
Read allOverall, everything went smoothly, and I was impressed with the local spots chosen by Trafalgar to dine and tour. The movement between hotels with luggage was seamless thanks to the diligence of our Travel Director Lasse and Coach Driver Helmut. I was extremely impressed and pleased by our Travel Director, Lasse, and his ability to pivot when needed to make things more special, and he made the trip fun. Specifically, he watched weather and shifted us to head up to the Austrian Alps because it was clear on a particular day whereas if we had waited to the Swiss Alps on its designated day, we'd have missed it because the mountain was closed due to weather. Our coach was new, modern and featured charging for cell phones and WIFI which was wonderful. A few things that didn't sit right with my family and at least 20 others (half the tour group who also didn't go) on our "Christmas Markets Tour in Europe" included an optional experience to visit a concentration camp in Germany. Unreal. And, our hotel in had construction going on which was TERRIBLE to say the least (many guests made a huge stink to have rooms changed) and another hotel in Switzerland has beds right next to bathroom with a glass sliding door. Unbelievable, unfortunate and awkward for my brother and I sharing a room. All in all it was a great tour and I would recommend Trafalgar. But I think more care should go into hotel choice.
