 10:30 am:

“Dive into Culture” with a 2-hr guided walking tour around the arts and heritage enclave of the Bras Basah Bugis precinct as draw the curtain up on Singapore’s colourful past. We will start from Waterloo Street, a treasure trove of stories with its own distinctive character as one of Singapore’s oldest streets. Discover the agglomeration of arts spaces, national monuments and former prestigious schools that have formed the neighbourhood’s multicultural identity.  Where else can one find religious buildings of Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Judaism co-existing alongside a vibrant arts community? Learn how Waterloo Street came to have its iconic Mandarin moniker "Si Ma Lu” (directly translated as “Four Horse Road” in English).

Note: There will be two different themed walking tours starting from Waterloo Street every alternate week:

“Crossroads Alive!” in partnership with The Theatre Practice (Practice)

&

“Tapestries of the Heart” in partnership with Singapore Council of Women’s Organisaton (SCWO) and the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame (SCWF).

 2:00 pm:

 Tiong Bahru Afternoon Delight

After lunch, we will head over to Tiong Bahru – Singapore’s oldest public housing estate with many  ‘Hidden Gems’ of architectural, cultural and historic significance. Walk through the eclectic neighborhood with your travel director on the way to Bincho and glean some interesting stories about its unique social history and its transformation into a vibrant lifestyle enclave.

“Be My Guest” at Bincho @ Hua Bee
Embark on a culinary adventure at Bincho for our Be My Guest experience. You can watch and chat with Chef Asai as he masterfully uses the Bincho –tan grill while you enjoy a tasting menu of different cuts of the tori {chicken} along with some unique specialties.*

As a dual-concept restaurant combining a 70-year old mee pok stall by day that transforms into a copper hued, other-worldly dining destination in the evening, Bincho is a hidden gem for those in the know. The name of the restaurant is inspired by Bincho-tan, the unique, white charcoal used in Japan to grill yakitori. The Japanese are known to understand the nuances that create beautiful things, for their precision and attention to detail. Chef Asai stays true to this with his approach to cooking.

Our Near Not Far discovery experience will conclude after your Be My Guest experience. You can explore Tiong Bahru at leisure or choose an option to extend your holiday with an overnight stay with one of our hotel partners.

*Bincho welcomes vegetarians and those with dietary preferences.

Tour Differently with Trafalgar’s unique guided walking tours of Waterloo Street and its neighbouring streets.

“Crossroads Alive!“ is a one-of-a-kind walking tour that uncovers the neighbourhood’s forgotten stories in a fun way. Our Local Specialist will pull back the curtain on Waterloo Street’s pivotal role in developing Singapore’s arts and culture scene.

With historical anecdotes compiled during the creation process of Practice’s “Four Horse Road 2020” production, you will learn about the diverse communities that once lived, studied, worked and worshipped on Waterloo Street.

Our Local Specialist will regale you with the eventful multicultural history of Waterloo Street, that has in turn inspired countless artists and theatrical productions including Four Horse Road 2020.

After the tour, enjoy an exclusive peek into the inner workings of Singapore’s longest running bilingual theatre institution with an intimate “makan session” at The Theatre Practice’s Practice Tuckshop.

Hosted by the friendly “Tuckshop Guniangs”, guests enjoy a delicious lunch while learning about Singapore’s illustrious theatre scene and Practice’s storied past and its role in shaping Singapore’s cultural landscape. You will also get a behind-the-scenes tour of Practice’s home, a historic conservation shophouse.

“Tapestries of the Heart” is a unique walking tour that weaves the stories of Singapore’s pioneer women who have played an instrumental role in shaping Singapore’s history.

Adapted from SCWO’s & SWHF “Walking in the Footsteps of our Foremothers” walking tour, you will learn about the rich history of landmarks and national monuments located along the route.

Our Local Specialist will share about how the various landmarks are linked to women in Singapore’s Women’s Hall of Fame as you relive the steps of these inspiring women who have left their historical footprints as boundary breakers, record holders, risk-takers and changemakers.

The tour culminates at Maghain Aboth Synagogue on Waterloo Street, one of Singapore’s most noted historical monuments. As South-East Asia’s oldest Jewish synagogue, it has borne witness to the contributions of the Jewish community in Singapore since British colonial times.
Standing in what used to be Singapore’s Jewish quarter, the synagogue remains the focal point of all religious and community and social events today. Get a glimpse of Jewish culture and way of life as you enjoy lunch at Singapore’s only Kosher restaurant - AWAFI Restaurant.
